How to distinguish the quality of optical cable?

We all know that fiber optic cable is composed of cable core, reinforcing steel wire, filler and sheath, etc. In addition, there are waterproof layer, buffer layer, insulated metal wire and other components as needed. The optical cable manufacturer tells you to help you distinguish whether the optical cable is of high quality from the following five aspects:

1. Filler ointment: It is a substance existing in the loose tube, mainly containing fiber ointment and cable ointment. To prevent water and moisture from penetrating the cable. Because the optical fiber is extremely sensitive to HO- generated by water and moisture; water and moisture will expand the cracks on the surface of the optical fiber, resulting in a significant decrease in the strength of the optical fiber, and the hydrogen generated by the chemical reaction between the moisture and the metal material will cause the fiber to obtain hydrogen. loss, resulting in an increase in the transmission loss of the optical fiber, which seriously affects the quality and service life of the optical cable. The national standard requires that the water blocking performance is: three meters of optical cable, one meter of water column pressure, and no water seepage for 24 hours. Under normal circumstances, the fiber paste should fill the entire loose tube, and the cable paste should fill every gap of the fiber optic cable core under pressure.

2. Outer sheath: Indoor optical cables are generally made of polyvinyl chloride or flame retardant polyvinyl chloride. The appearance should be smooth, bright, flexible and easy to peel. The outer skin of the optical cable with poor quality is not smooth, and it is easy to stick to the inner tight sleeve and aramid fiber. The main function of the outer sheath of the optical cable is to cope with different complex climatic environments and ensure the stable use of the optical cable for at least 25 years. The optical cable jacket should not only have a certain strength, low thermal deformation, wear, water permeability, thermal shrinkage and friction coefficient, but also have the characteristics of strong environmental stress resistance and good material processing performance.

3. Protective material steel strip, aluminum strip. The steel tape and aluminum tape in the optical cable are mainly used to protect the optical fiber from mechanical side pressure and moisture resistance. Chrome-plated steel tape is generally used in the better optical cable. Unqualified optical cables will have internal corrosion over time, resulting in poor moisture resistance; the tin-plated layer has poor heat resistance, and the melting point is only 232 degrees Celsius. Due to the high temperature during application, the peeling strength is not good. Deterministic, affecting the moisture resistance of the optical cable. The melting point of chromium is 1900 degrees Celsius, and its chemical properties are very stable. It will not rust when placed in the air or immersed in water at room temperature. For aluminum tapes, unqualified hot-lamination-coated aluminum tapes are generally used instead of cast-casting-coated aluminum tapes, which will also affect the performance of the optical cable.

4. Compression-resistant steel wire: The steel wire of the regular manufacturer’s outdoor optical cable is phosphating, and the surface is gray. Such a steel wire will not increase hydrogen loss after cabling, will not rust, and has high strength. Inferior optical cables are generally replaced by thin iron wires or aluminum wires, and the identification method is very easy – the appearance is white, and it can be bent at will when you hold it in your hand. The optical cable produced with such steel wire has a large hydrogen loss, and the two ends of the optical fiber box will rust and break after a long time.

5. Loose tube: The loose tube of the optical fiber in the optical cable should be made of PBT material. Such a tube has high strength, no deformation, and anti-aging. Inferior optical cables are generally made of PVC casing. The outer diameter of such a casing is very thin, and it is flattened when squeezed by hand, which is a bit like a straw for drinking beverages.
